I’m hugely proud of this amazing city I live in. Yes, the weather’s a bit crap; Londoners might not always be the most approachable people; there’s a housing crisis; the traffic and pollution is terrible. I could go on…
But for all its faults, London ranks somewhere between the second and fourth most visited cities in the world, depending on which survey you read. And as a place to live, there’s nowhere like it. Where else in the world can you absorb such rich history, take in cutting edge culture, get lost in a crowd, or find yourself almost completely alone in one of its parks.
I’m not much of a photographer, something I intend to address with a basic photography course. But I do love taking photos while I’m out and about. Snapping away at interesting buildings and the grubbiness of the London Underground has become something of an obsession.
Here are my top 10 reasons to love London, in pictures. These are all my own photographs (apart from two which I have credited) and copyright applies.
1: Fascinating history
2: Architecture – old and new, often side by side
3: Parks and green spaces
4: Hidden treasures
5: Street art:
6: The River Thames and the South Bank
7: The London Underground in all its grimy glory
8: People: so many cultures living together and a handful of eccentrics
9: Art and culture
10: The best food from around the world
There are so many other reasons to visit and live in London, but I don’t have photos for those! I’ll keep working on it though.
