CRU is a new leather goods brand based in London. We found each other through our mutual love of high-quality handbags and they kindly sent me a Rivington tote to review.
This really is the perfect handbag for every day. With zips down each side to expand or narrow the bag, there’s plenty of room for all my daily essentials as well as a fairly hefty novel. The leather is sturdy, although I’m told it will soften with age. The rich tan colour will darken with use to give it a lovely patina. This bag isn’t a show-off. It does however shout quality and classic style.
As you know I love a back-story, so here is CRU’s.
During a trip to Portugal in May 2014, founders Tiago Félix and Petru van der Walt stumbled upon a team of leather artisans who made the pair a bespoke handbag. They chose the leather from a pile of different coloured hides, specified their own shape and the result was a unique design.
Although both had careers completely unrelated to fashion – one was a consultant in the City, the other worked in project management – Tiago and Petru saw the potential in creating a brand of hand-crafted, premium leather goods which would appeal to men and women and would last a lifetime. They returned to London and the idea for CRU was born.
CRU’s designs are simple, down to earth and functional – perfect for its London market. The team of artisans in Portugal use the best quality, natural vegetable-tanned leather. It’s a beautiful collaboration.
Their first consignment of bags arrived in January 2015 and the range is going to expand. This is definitely a brand to watch.
The CRU Rivington Tote is £240 and is available from CRU’s website.
Much love, Vx
