I have a new kitchen appliance and it does pretty much everything except the ironing.
The Tefal Cuisine Companion has arrived just a few weeks before we start a major kitchen refurbishment project, which will leave me without an oven or hob for six weeks. I was happily anticipating takeaways, microwave meals and trips to Wagamama. But oh no, Tefal just had to go and ruin it. I have no excuses to shirk home made meals with a device which slowcooks and steams, makes sauces, soups, pastries and desserts and then washes itself up (OK I made up that last one). It’s mind blowing.
I wanted to put it to the test with my most-made, much loved recipe for Bolognese sauce. If it can do Bolognese well, I will trust it with my life.[Tweet “Forget complicated #cooking, try #lazycooking #food #CuisineCompanion @TefalUK “]
Here is my Lazy Cooking recipe for Bolognese sauce, which can also be cooked on the hob or in the oven (which is sooo last week).
Ingredients (serves 4):
- Splash of olive oil
- 100g cubetti di pancetta – or thick bacon cut up into small pieces
- 1 onion – chopped
- 1 clove garlic – chopped (I used half a teaspoon of Very Lazy chopped garlic)
- 350g lean beef steak mince (I used half the beef used in the photo)
- 1 large carrot – diced
- 1 stick celery – chopped
- 500g chopped tinned tomatoes
- 30g tomato puree
- Splash of red wine
- 200ml beef stock (Oxo cube)
- Pinch of oregano
- Pinch of basil
- Half a teaspoon of parika
- Pinch of salt & pepper
Put all the ingredients in the Tefal Cuisine Companion. Press the ‘Slow Cook’ button twice to launch P2 programme.
Pour yourself a large glass of wine.
Wait 35 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 150˚c.
Heat the oil on the hob in an oven-proof casserole dish and add the pancetta, garlic and onion until the onion starts to become transparent.
Add the beef to the pan and stir until the meat starts to turn brown. Add all the other ingredients and seasoning. Bring the Bolognese slowly to the boil and then transfer to the oven for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
Serving suggestion: Serve over pasta – I prefer linguine to spaghetti and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
I was impressed with the speed at which this ‘slow cooker’ cooked the Bolognese to perfection. The meat was tender, the sauce was rich and the carrots still had a little bite.
Tefal, you had me at Bolognese.
My thanks to Tefal for providing me with the Cuisine Companion to review.
