Lifting the lid
I love it when surprising and unusual products land on my desk, particularly when it’s a beauty product from California.
Lids by Design was developed by glamorous entrepreneur Britain Todd, founder of Contours Rx. She wanted something that would lift her eyelids without having to go under the knife (a preference of many of her 40-something Californian peers).
Lids by Design come in packs of 40 hypoallergenic, medical-grade, latex-free, sticky ‘correcting’ strips. Simply peel off a strip with the enclosed tweezers and apply it on the crease of your eyelid. Voila – instant lift. Makeup can be applied on top so the strip is invisible. The strips work on heavy, sagging or asymmetrical lids and are popular with men and women in the States.
As a makeup artist, I see clients all the time who have lost the battle with gravity. I’m a case in point. I find it increasingly difficult to get any definition with my eye shadow because my eyelids have travelled so far south.
I was really impressed with the effect – the strip sits in the new crease so can’t be seen unless you close your eyes, and they were comfortable enough to wear all day. Just peel them off and throw them away in the evening during your usual cleansing routine and start again with fresh strips the next day.
Britain’s online videos show you how to use the strips. I had a go at making my own video (failed!), but I think you can probably see from the photos below what a difference the strips made to my eyes.
So here are the photos – the first one is me au naturel; the second is with the Lids by Design but no makeup; and the third is with makeup on top of the Lids by Design.
The only issue I have with Lids by Design is that I didn’t realise I had such sagging lids until I saw the difference the strips made. Now I’m looking at myself in the mirror with fresh eyes.
Would you try these?
Much love, Vx
