[AD: this post is sponsored by PRAI Beauty, for whom I conducted a two-month skincare trial of their Platinum range in return for an honest review.]
The big M and me
If you’ve followed the blog for a while, you’ll know that I don’t shy away from talking about menopause (specifically peri-menopause in my case). The mood swings, brain fog and other psychological impacts affect my daily life. Discussing menopause openly helps other women understand they’re not alone, and is a kind of therapy for me.
Skin during menopause
My hormones have played havoc with my skin too, which absorbs moisture like a sponge. I have more regular breakouts than ever before, with redness on my forehead being an almost permanent feature.
During the menopause, oestrogen and progesterone levels reduce, meaning skin can become thinner, lose elasticity and appear less radiant. It’s also common for women to experience acne and skin pigment changes.
PRAI Beauty is a brand I’ve tested before with impressive results. Their PRAI Ageless Throat & Décolletage Night Crème with Retinol is a game-changer for wrinkly, crinkly necks and cleavages. And here is the proof, with no filter or image manipulation, on my skin.
Their new Platinum Collection, available at M&S is designed for mature, dehydrated skin which has lost some of its elasticity and glow. I’ve been testing them for a couple of months and wanted to share the results with you.
I was given four products from the range to try: the day and night serums and crèmes. Here is my ‘before the trial’ photo:
I’ll be honest, I made the mistake of changing my skincare routine wholesale in one fell swoop, and my skin couldn’t cope. I had a huge breakout and wondered if I had reacted to the products. I spoke to the experts at PRAI Beauty, and they advised me to introduce each product to my routine a week at a time. That is why it’s taken me so long to complete this review.
The trial – round two
The second attempt at the trial began with the Platinum Firm & Lift Crème (£35 for 50ml). This has just run out, two months later and I’m bereft. It is luxurious, rich and silky smooth. Packed full of Vitamin E and Almond Oil, as well as Platinum – which defends against harmful environmental aggressors – the crème is cool on application and absorbs quickly into the skin.
Next, I introduced Platinum Firm & Lift Night Crème (£35 for 50ml), which is rich in Vitamin E and Shea Butter, giving a boost to your skin while you sleep. The consistency is thick and rich, but not greasy. It smells great too.
Two weeks in and my skin had settled down sufficiently to introduce the two serums. Platinum Firm & Lift Intensive Serum (£38 for 30ml) is for daytime application. I started my day with a quick one-step cleanse, followed by the serum and day crème. The serum gives the crème a power boost. I describe serums as breakfast, lunch and dinner for your skin. This one glides on – one small pump is enough to relieve and quench the skin.
The Platinum Night Caviar Firm & Lift Serum (£38 for 30ml) is rather special. It has a beautiful shimmer to it, making the skin look radiant. I would have liked a similar shimmer in the day serum.
Containing Argan and Avocado Oils, it works to increase the skin’s natural moisture barrier. The Platinum helps deliver antioxidants, whilst the Omega-3 fatty acids aid skin renewal.
Here’s my ‘during the trial’ photo, about a month in:
I took a series of photographs to show you the results.
I don’t use filters in my skincare trial photographs – the lighting might be slightly different in each shot. You can see how the patch of redness has reduced over time and has now completely disappeared.
I haven’t had a breakout since the first couple of weeks and my skin feels smooth and firm.
I’m still using the two serums and the night crème and will continue to do so until the very last drops have gone. I started the day crème first, and have finished it.
Here’s my ‘omg, I put makeup on for the first time in seven weeks photo’:
What do you think of the results? If you’re experiencing menopausal symptoms, how has your skin changed? I thoroughly recommend this range and will repurchase.
Much love, Vx[Disclosure: sponsored by PRAI Beauty, but all opinions are my own and I always write an honest review. Availability and prices are correct at the time of publication.]
