I had perfect vision until I started using a computer regularly in my mid 20s. Since hitting 40, my sight has become progressively worse and I now need my glasses for everything except driving – my long distance vision still being pretty much in tact. My eyesight might have been heading in that direction anyway, but I’m convinced that my reliance on both my computer and iPhone have led to its most recent deterioration.
I remember being incredibly jealous of my bespectacled friends as a child. So desperate was I for funky facial accessories that I nearly bought a pair with clear lenses with my first pay cheque.
Be careful what you wish for people.
Although they are not the first thing I reach for in the morning (that would be my lip balm), I have grown accustomed to wearing glasses now. I have a rather severe looking pair in my bag at all times, a colourful pair on my desk, and a nerdy pair by the bed (not sure why I thought NHS-chic would ever return).
My glasses make me feel slightly taller, better put together. I feel work-ready when I put them on – easier than changing into a suit – and I’m not alone. According to research by Vision Express (who might have a vested interested in this outcome), 60% of Brits say they would wear glasses for an important work meeting or job interview to be taken more seriously.
Vision Express offered me the opportunity to have a glasses styling session with X Factor stylist Gemma Sheppard – isn’t she gorgeous?, after which they would make me a pair of prescription glasses from their Exclusive Brands range, a new selection of very reasonably priced frames, starting from just £39.
Watch this short video to see how it went. Please forgive the amateur editing – I have never used editing software before so I’m teaching myself by failing in public.
I’d love to know what you think of the new frames. The lenses are coated with a blue light filter, so I can carry on working on my video editing skills late into the night.
How does wearing glasses make you feel? Please leave me a comment below, I always reply. Vx
[Disclosure: this post was not sponsored, but Vision Express did gift me a pair of prescription glasses and a generous discount on my sunnies!]
